What it actually costs to open a coffee shop.

Real numbers from someone who has opened four of them. Not a range pulled from a blog; the way I build the budget for my own locations.

  • The four questions that move the number. Where you are, how big, food or no food, and what tier of equipment. Each one changes the total by tens of thousands.
  • The four budget line items, in the order you build them. Build-out, plans, equipment, marketing, with fill-in blanks and the real ranges from my own shops.
  • The mistakes that cost the most. Including the one that doubled my first build, and the one that's nearly impossible to fix after the walls go up.

Who's asking you for your email

I'm Nick. I own and run Tru Bru Organic Coffee.

Four locations across Orange County, California and Henderson, Nevada, a little over five million dollars a year, built one store at a time starting from a single location. I'm not a consultant. I'm an owner who still works in the stores.

Almost every week somebody asks me what it costs to open a coffee shop. I used to answer one person at a time. I don't have time for that anymore, so I wrote it down once. This guide is that answer.

Further along than "how much does it cost"? There's a full 19-lesson course, from "why" to grand opening. See the course
